WEDDING RECEPTION: You are invited to an open house wedding reception for Paul and Lighton Otyama TODAY, October 14 from 4:00 to 6:00 pm at GABC. Paul and Lighton were married on June 2, 2018, in Uganda. Paul returned to the U.S. in July and Lighton was able to join him here in late August. The Otyama’s are registered at Target. Gift card ideas include: Aldi, Wal-Mart, Sam’s Club, Applebees,PepperJax, The Café, El Azteca, Fazoli’s and Dutch Oven Bakery. Join us as we celebrate Paul and Lighton’s marriage!
MEMBERSHIP CLASS: A Foundations of Membership Class is scheduled for Sunday, October 21,2:00-5:00 pm in Room 102. This class covers our faith and practice. It is open to anyone wishing to learn more about life at GABC. Register at gabcames.org/membership or contact our church office (info@gabcames.org).
AN EVENING OF FELLOWSHIP AND HOSPITALITY: Have you ever wondered what hospitality is and what it looks like to practice it? Perhaps you have wondered if hospitality is inviting your in-laws over for supper or if it is hosting a small group from your church? Furthermore, if you do practice hospitality what should be the condition of your house? These are just some questions we may ask when it comes to hospitality. I hope our Evening of Hospitality will answer many of these questions.
Sunday evening, October 21 from 5:30 to 7:00 pm will be an evening devoted to what it looks like to practice hospitality. You are invited to attend an evening focused on defining and practicing hospitality in our small groups and homes. It will be a fun and interactive time that will help us grow in our understanding of hospitality and equip us to practice hospitality.
We will begin at 5:30 pm in the Overflow area with a pizza supper. There will be all kinds of yummy pizza, including gluten-free pizza and veggie pizza. Be sure to get all the pizza you want and eat all you get.
During our time together, we will sing some songs, have an interactive Bible study on hospitality, hear inspiring testimonies about hospitality, and giveaway a few books on the topic of, you guessed it, hospitality. Our evening will conclude with some thoughts on what we have experienced in our time together.
There will not be any childcare at the church but Kids Cash (our childcare reimbursement) is available. Please email me if you have any questions about the evening of hospitality. I hope you will join us! Pastor Michael
INFORMED CHOICE OF IOWA FALL BANQUET: The 2018 Ames Fall Banquet for Informed Choice of Iowa will be Sunday, October 28th, with guest speaker Chuck Donovan. The banquet will be held at the Gateway Hotel at 2100 Green Hills Drive. Seating begins at 6:30 pm, dinner and program will be from 7:00-9:00 pm. Please register by Monday, October 22nd. You may register online at InformedChoiceIA.org or call Rhonda Morrison at (515)291-1599. There’s no cost to attend, but adults only please, as seating is limited.
ASK US ANYTHING: GABC Women and College Ministries are partnering to provide an evening for young adult and college age women. Join us for an “Ask Us Anything” panel featuring GABC women from all different seasons of life. We will be taking questions in advance and asking them throughout the evening. Please send questions to gabcwomen@gabcames.org or text 515-337-9926. Plan on inviting a friend and coming on November 3rd from 7:00-9:00 pm to GABC. Dessert will also be provided.
OPERATION CHRISTMAS CHILD (OCC) SHOEBOXES: It’s that time of year to collect supplies for OCC shoeboxes sent out with the gospel message around the world. You may use any shoebox, but boxes and fliers will be available at the OCC display starting next Sunday, October 21. GABC will collect shoeboxes November 11 and 18 to be transported to our local shipping center. Please contact Andrea Trabue (292-4978) with questions.
