Book Recommendation: In the Lord I Take Refuge

Book Recommendation: In the Lord I Take Refuge

The fourth book I would like to recommend for reading in 2024 is In The Lord I Take Refuge: 150 Daily Devotions through the Psalms by Dane C. Ortlund.

One of the things I love about the Psalms is the psalmists’ transparency and vulnerability. Sometimes, when you read a Psalm, it almost feels like you have opened someone’s personal private journal, and you are peaking into their deepest struggles and trials. We hear the psalmist lament his sorrow and yet hope in God at the same time. Often praise of God and the pain of life are woven closely together in many Psalms like threads in a tapestry that give the picture of hope in God. As a matter of fact, hope is the air you breathe in the Psalms. While the psalmist may confess the dark night of the soul and his accompanying confusion, the psalmists still maintain their confidence in God.

One of the beauties of Ortlund’s book is how he covers the content of the Psalm and, at the same time, shows the reader how to see Jesus in each Psalm.  So, if you’re looking for a solid devotional that contains solid biblical meat, then this is the devotional for you. Let me know if you decide to read this book so we can compare our takeaways from the book.
