Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship

1 For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.

2 He alone is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be greatly shaken.

3 How long will all of you attack a man
to batter him, like a leaning wall, a tottering fence?

4 They only plan to thrust him down from his high position.
They take pleasure in falsehood.
They bless with their mouths,
but inwardly they curse. Selah

5 For God alone, O my soul, wait in silence,
for my hope is from him.

6 He only is my rock and my salvation,
my fortress; I shall not be shaken.

7 On God rests my salvation and my glory;
my mighty rock, my refuge is God.

8 Trust in him at all times, O people;
pour out your heart before him;
God is a refuge for us. Selah

9 Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.

10 Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.

11 Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,

12 and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man according to his work.
ESV Ps 62:1–12.

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
Leader:
Merciful God who judges all people impartially
You are holy and you have called us to be holy

All:
Father we confess that we are not holy
Father we have not loved You as we should have
Father we have not loved our families as we should have
Father we confess we have been lazy and disobedient in our families

Husbands:
Father we confess we have not lived with our wives in understanding ways
We have not shown our wives honor as the weaker vessel
We have not cherished them as co-heirs of the grace of life
Father forgive us that our prayers may not be hindered
Father make us holy as You are holy

Wives:
Father we confess we have not be subject to our husbands
We have focused on externals instead of the hidden person of the heart
We have not shown our husbands respect in word or deed
We have not been gentle and quiet in spirit
Father forgive us and make us holy as You are holy

Leader:
Father You have made us a people for Your own possession
You have called us to be royal priesthood and a holy nation

All:
Have mercy on us, O God, according to Your steadfast love;
According to Your abundant mercy blot out our transgressions.
Wash us thoroughly from our iniquity, and cleanse us from our sin.

(Based on 1 Peter 1:13-19, 2:8, 3:1-7; Ps. 51:1-4)

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Profession of Assurance
We remember the gospel for our assurance
Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. 2 Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
ESV Rom. 5:1–2.

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.

Scripture Reading
We hear the scripture text of the sermon read.
1 Peter 3:1-7 ESV
Likewise, wives, be subject to your own husbands, so that even if some do not obey the word, they may be won without a word by the conduct of their wives, 2 when they see your respectful and pure conduct. 3 Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— 4 but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God’s sight is very precious. 5 For this is how the holy women who hoped in God used to adorn themselves, by submitting to their own husbands, 6 as Sarah obeyed Abraham, calling him lord. And you are her children, if you do good and do not fear anything that is frightening.
7 Likewise, husbands, live with your wives in an understanding way, showing honor to the woman as the weaker vessel, since they are heirs with you of the grace of life, so that your prayers may not be hindered.
