Reflection

Therefore, putting away lying,
speak the truth, each one to his neighbor,
because we are members of one another.
And don’t grieve God’s Holy Spirit.

Ephesians 4:25, 30 (CSB)

Do not lie to one another,
since you have put off the old self with its practices
and have put on the new self.
You are being renewed in knowledge
according to the image of your Creator.

Colossians 3:9-10 (CSB)

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
From Psalm 24:7-10

Welcome, saints and pilgrims, sons and daughters of the Most High!
Who have you come to worship today?

The Lord of hosts,
Maker of heaven and earth,
The only King of glory!

Who is this King of glory?

The Lord strong and mighty,
The Lord mighty in battle!
Lift up your heads, O you gates!
Lift up, you everlasting doors!
And the King of glory shall come in!

Who is this King of glory?

The Lord of hosts,
He IS the King of glory!

Our Sung Call to Worship
Come Behold the Wondrous Mystery

Verse 1
Come behold the wondrous mystery,
In the dawning of the King.
He, the theme of heaven’s praises,
Robed in frail humanity.
In our longing, in our darkness,
Now the light of life has come!
Look to Christ who condescended,
Took on flesh to ransom us.

Verse 2
Come behold the wondrous mystery:
He the perfect Son of Man,
In His living, in His suffering,
Never trace nor stain of sin.
See the true and better Adam,
Come to save the hell-bound man,
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law; in Him we stand.

Verse 3
Come behold the wondrous mystery:
Christ the Lord upon the tree.
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory!
See the price of our redemption,
See the Father’s plan unfold,
Bringing many sons to glory:
Grace unmeasured, love untold!

Verse 4
Come behold the wondrous mystery:
Slain by death, the God of life.
But no grave could e’er restrain Him;
Praise the Lord, He is alive!
What a foretaste of deliv’rance,
How unwavering our hope.
Christ in power resurrected,
As we will be when He comes.

Ending
What a foretaste of deliv’rance,
How unwavering our hope.
Christ in power resurrected,
As we will be when he comes.

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
Adapted from Valley of Vision p. 102

Merciful Father, we confess that we are spiritually
blind to Your workings in the world.
We forget that You are guiding and controlling all
things. In our ignorance, we despair.
We take matters into our own hands forgetting to
even consider Your will and Your ways.

Forgive us, Lord Jesus;
be our light, our wisdom and our mind.

Our ears are closed to Your still small voice.
We listen to the shouting of this world,
to our phones, to influencers,
to the entertainments of Vanity Fair.
Our hearts grow hard to the better things that You
offer and we prefer the pig’s trough to the feast
to which You call us.

Forgive us, Lord Jesus.
Let us run after Your beckoning hand
and flee the slightest touch of evil.
Let us find our delight
in the green pastures of Your Word.

Remind us now of those sins which have already
been forgiven and yet You urge us to
acknowledge them and seek repentance.
Help us to take an honest assessment of our
hearts and see if there is any wicked way in us.

Our Sung Confession
The Power of the Cross

Verse 1
Oh to see the dawn of the darkest day:
Christ on the road to Calvary.
Tried by sinful men, torn and beaten, then
Nailed to a cross of wood. (Chorus 1)

Chorus 1
This the pow’r of the cross;
Christ became sin for us.
Took the blame, bore the wrath
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Verse 2
Oh to see the pain written on Your face,
Bearing the awesome weight of sin.
Ev’ry bitter thought, ev’ry evil deed
Crowning Your bloodstained brow. (Chorus 1)

Verse 3
Now the daylight flees, now the ground beneath
Quakes as its Maker bows His head.
Curtain torn in two, dead are raised to life
‘Finished!’ the vict’ry cry. (Chorus 1)

Verse 4
Oh to see my name written in the wounds,
For through Your suff’ring I am free.
Death is crushed to death, life is mine to live
Won through Your selfless love! (Chorus 2)

Chorus 2
This the pow’r of the cross
Son of God slain for us.
What a love, what a cost
We stand forgiven at the cross.

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel & The Lord’s Supper
Rejoice and be filled with peace!
Christ’s cross was lifted up to be your refuge.
His blood streamed forth to wash you clean.
His death occurred so you would have assurance.

Your name saves us, O Redeemer and King!
We were strangers, outcasts, rebels and slaves,
but Your cross has brought us near and softened our hearts.

You have made us Your children,
admitted us to Your family
and made us joint heirs with Yourself!

Teach us to love You as You have loved us
and may we walk worthy of You, our Saviour and Friend.

Distribution of elements.

With this bread, we remember Christ’s body broken for us.
We anticipate the bodily resurrection to come;
a real body in a real place.

With this cup, we remember Christ’s blood, shed for us.
We anticipate eternity; fully cleansed, eternally pure,
with Him forever.

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
In Christ Alone

Verse 1
In Christ alone, my hope is found;
He is my light, my strength, my song;
This cornerstone, this solid ground,
Firm through the fiercest drought and storm.
What heights of love, what depths of peace,
When fears are stilled, when strivings cease!
My comforter, my all in all—
Here in the love of Christ I stand.

Verse 2
In Christ alone, Who took on flesh,
Fullness of God in helpless babe!
This gift of love and righteousness,
Scorned by the ones He came to save.
Till on that cross as Jesus died,
The wrath of God was satisfied;
For every sin on Him was laid—
Here in the death of Christ I live.

Verse 3
There in the ground His body lay,
Light of the world by darkness slain.
Then bursting forth in glorious day,
Up from the grave He rose again!
And as He stands in victory,
Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me;
For I am His and He is mine—
Bought with the precious blood of Christ.

Verse 4
No guilt in life, no fear in death—
This is the pow’r of Christ in me;
From life’s first cry to final breath,
Jesus commands my destiny.
No pow’r of hell, no scheme of man,
Can ever pluck me from His hand;
Till He returns or calls me home—
Here in the pow’r of Christ I’ll stand.

His Mercy Is More

Verse 1
What love could remember no wrongs we have done?
Omniscient, all-knowing, He counts not their sum.
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore—
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more. (Chorus)

Chorus
Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more.

Verse 2
What patience would wait as we constantly roam?
What Father so tender is calling us home?
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor,
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more. (Chorus)

Verse 3
What riches of kindness He lavished on us—
His blood was the payment, His life was the cost!
We stood ‘neath a debt we could never afford.
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more. (Chorus 2X’s)

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.
On the first Sunday of each month we have two offerings—one for the general fund and a second one for the benevolence ministry of our church.
You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
Acts 5:1-11 (CSB)
1 But a man named Ananias, with his wife Sapphira, sold a piece of property. 2 However, he kept back part of the proceeds with his wife’s knowledge, and brought a portion of it and laid it at the apostles’ feet.
3 “Ananias,” Peter asked, “why has Satan filled your heart to lie to the Holy Spirit and keep back part of the proceeds of the land? 4 Wasn’t it yours while you possessed it? And after it was sold, wasn’t it at your disposal? Why is it that you planned this thing in your heart? You have not lied to people but to God.” 5 When he heard these words, Ananias dropped dead, and a great fear came on all who heard. 6 The young men got up, wrapped his body, carried him out, and buried him.
7 About three hours later, his wife came in, not knowing what had happened. 8 “Tell me,” Peter asked her, “did you sell the land for this price?” “Yes,” she said, “for that price.” 9 Then Peter said to her, “Why did you agree to test the Spirit of the Lord? Look, the feet of those who have buried your husband are at the door, and they will carry you out.” 10 Instantly she dropped dead at his feet. When the young men came in, they found her dead, carried her out, and buried her beside her husband.
11 Then great fear came on the whole church and on all who heard these things.

This the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!
