Pre-service Song
He is the King
When man’s dominion is a prison,
lords of war have trampled peace,
when those in power make us cower,
violent chaos floods are streets,
we will not hope in what is broken:
governments that fade or fail;
we stand united, undivided
with our King who shall prevail.

He is the King who serves His people,
the prince who shares His wealth,
the Judge whose mercy never fails,
the Lord who gives Himself.
He is the warrior who surrendered,
the Sov’reign who obeyed,
the Man who crushed mortality,
the God who rose to save;
He is the Lord of Lords, King of kings!
To Christ alone our praise we bring.
He is the Lord of Lords, King of kings!
To Christ alone our praise we bring.

When we know plunder, pain and hunger,
leaders steal to fund their feasts
or when a party or an army
gives prosperity and peace,
we will not trust in earthly justice,
finite words from mortal men;
we give to Jesus our allegiance
for His kingdom never ends.

He is the King who serves His people,
the prince who shares His wealth,
the Judge whose mercy never fails,
the Lord who gives Himself.
He is the warrior who surrendered,
the Sov’reign who obeyed,
the Man who crushed mortality,
the God who rose to save;
He is the Lord of Lords, King of kings!
To Christ alone our praise we bring.
He is the Lord of Lords, King of kings!
To Christ alone our praise we bring.

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
Revelation 7:10,12; 15:3-4 (CSB)

Salvation belongs to our God,
who is seated on the throne,
and to the Lamb!

Amen! Blessing and glory and wisdom
and thanksgiving and honor
and power and strength
be to our God forever and ever.

Great and awe-inspiring are your works,
Lord God, the Almighty;
just and true are your ways,
King of the nations.

Lord, who will not fear
and glorify your name?
For you alone are holy.

All the nations will come
and worship before you
because your righteous acts
have been revealed.

Our Sung Call to Worship
Rejoice the Lord is King

Rejoice, the Lord is King!
Your Lord and King adore;
Rejoice, give thanks and sing,
And triumph evermore;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice,
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

The Lord our Savior, reigns,
The God of Truth and love;
When He had purged our stains
He took His seat above;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice,
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

His kingdom cannot fail,
He rules o’er earth and heav’n,
The keys of death and hell
Are to our Jesus giv’n;
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice,
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

Rejoice in glorious hope!
Our Lord the Judge shall come,
And take His servants up,
To their eternal home.
Lift up your heart, lift up your voice,
Rejoice, again I say, rejoice!

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
1 John 1:8-9, 2:1-2 (ESV)

If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves,
and the truth is not in us.

If we confess our sins, he is faithful
and just to forgive us our sins
and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

But if anyone does sin,
we have an advocate with the Father,
Jesus Christ the righteous one.

He is the propitiation for our sins,
and not for ours only
but also for the sins of the whole world.

Time of silent confession.

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel
Galatians 4:4-7 (NASB)

Let’s remember the Gospel together.

But when the fullness of the time came,
God sent His Son, born of a woman, born under the Law,
so that He might redeem those who were under the Law,
that we might receive the adoption as sons and daughters.

Because you are sons, God has sent the Spirit of His Son
into our hearts, crying out, “Abba! Father!”
Therefore you are no longer a slave, but a son;
and if a son, then an heir through God.

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
Poor Sinner Dejected with Fear (Distribution Song)

Poor sinner, dejected with fear,
Unbosom thy mind to the Lamb;
No wrath on His brow He does wear,
Nor will He poor mourners condemn;
His arm of omnipotent grace
Is able and willing to save;
A sweet and a permanent peace
He’ll freely and faithfully give.

Come just as thou art, with thy woe,
Fall down at the feet of the Lamb;
He will not, He cannot say, “Go,”
But surely will take out thy stain;
A fountain is opened for sin,
And thousands its virtues have proved
He’ll take thee, and plunge thee therein,
And wash thee from filth in His blood.

The soul that on Jesus relies,
He’ll never, no never deceive;
He freely and faithfully gives
More blessings than we can conceive;
Yea, down to old age He will keep,
Nor will He forsake us at last;
He knows and is known by His sheep;
They’re His, and He will hold them fast.

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

Yet Not I But Through Christ in Me

What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace.

To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his.
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior he will stay.
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, his power is displayed.

To this I hold: my Shepherd will defend me;
Through the deepest valley he will lead.
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven;
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And he was raised to overthrow the grave.

To this I hold: my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing I am free!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For he has said that he will bring me home.
And day by day I know he will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne.

To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus!
All the glory evermore to him!
When the race is complete,
still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

When the race is complete,
still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.

You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
Matthew 23:1-12 (ESV)

1 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples, 2 “The scribes and the Pharisees sit on Moses’ seat, 3 so do and observe whatever they tell you, but not the works they do. For they preach, but do not practice. 4 They tie up heavy burdens, hard to bear, and lay them on people’s shoulders, but they themselves are not willing to move them with their finger. 5 They do all their deeds to be seen by others. For they make their phylacteries broad and their fringes long, 6 and they love the place of honor at feasts and the best seats in the synagogues 7 and greetings in the marketplaces and being called rabbi by others. 8 But you are not to be called rabbi, for you have one teacher, and you are all brothers. 9 And call no man your father on earth, for you have one Father, who is in heaven. 10 Neither be called instructors, for you have one instructor, the Christ. 11 The greatest among you shall be your servant. 12 Whoever exalts himself will be humbled, and whoever humbles himself will be exalted.

This is the word of the Lord.
The grass withers and the flower falls
but the word of the Lord endures forever.
