Pre-service Song
Oh, For A Thousand Tongues to Sing

Oh, for a thousand tongues to sing
my great Redeemer’s praise,
the glories of my God and King,
the triumphs of His grace!

My gracious Master and my God,
assist me to proclaim,
to spread through all the earth abroad
the honors of Your name.

The name of Jesus charms our fears
and bids our sorrows cease;
‘tis music in the sinner’s ears,
‘tis life and health and peace.

He breaks the power of canceled sin,
He sets the prisoner free;
His blood can make the foulest clean;
His blood avails for me.

He speaks, and, listening to His voice
new life the dead receive;
the mournful, broken hearts rejoice;
the humble poor believe.

To God all glory, praise, and love
be now and ever given
by saints below and saints above,
the church in earth and heaven.

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
1 Peter 1:3-4, 6-7 (ESV)

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ!

According to his great mercy,
he has caused us to be born again
to a living hope through the resurrection
of Jesus Christ from the dead,
to an inheritance that is imperishable,
undefiled, and unfading,
kept in heaven for you.

In this you rejoice, though now for a little while,
if necessary, you have been grieved by various trials,
so that the tested genuineness of your faith—
more precious than gold that perishes
though it is tested by fire—
may be found to result in praise and glory
and honor at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Our Sung Call to Worship
Come People of the Risen King

Come people of the risen King
Who delight to bring Him praise.
Come all and tune your hearts to sing,
To the Morning Star of grace.
From the shifting shadows of the earth,
We will lift our eyes to Him.
Where steady arms of mercy reach
To gather children in.

Chorus:
Rejoice, rejoice,
Let ev’ry tongue rejoice.
One heart, one voice,
O Church of Christ rejoice.

Come those who joy is morning sun,
and those weeping through the night.
Come those who tell of battles won,
And those struggling in the fight.
For His perfect love will never change
And His mercies never cease,
But follow us through all our days
With the certain hope of peace. (Chorus)

Come young and old from every land,
Men and women of the faith.
Come those with full or empty hands
Find the riches of His grace.
Over all the world His people sing,
Shore to shore we hear them call,
The truth that cries through ev’ry age
Our God is all and all. (Chorus)

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
Isaiah 53:1-6 (ESV)

Who has believed what he has heard from us?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?

For he grew up before him like a young plant,
and like a root out of dry ground;
he had no form or majesty that we should look at this,
and no beauty that we should desire him.

He was despised and rejected by men,
a man of sorrows and acquainted with grief;
and as one from whom men hide their faces
he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

Surely he has borne our griefs
and carried our sorrows;
yet we esteemed him stricken,
smitten by God, and afflicted.

But he was pierced for our transgressions;
he was crushed for our iniquities;
upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace,
and with his wounds we are healed.

All we like sheep have gone astray;
we have turned—every one—to his own way;
and the Lord has laid on him
the iniquity of us all.

Time of silent confession.

Our Sung Confession
Is He Worthy?

Do you feel the world is broken? We do.
Do you feel the shadows deepen? We do.
But do you know that all the dark won’t stop the light from getting through? We do.
Do you wish that you could see it all made new? We do.

Is all creation groaning? It is.
Is a new creation coming? It is.
Is the glory of the Lord to be the light within our midst? It is.
Is it good that we remind ourselves of this? It is.

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah who conquered the grave,
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave.

Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Of all blessing and honor and glory
Is He worthy of this? He is!

Does the Father truly love us? He does.
Does the Spirit move among us? He does.
And does Jesus, our Messiah hold forever those He loves? He does.
Does our God intend to dwell again with us? He does.

Is anyone worthy? Is anyone whole?
Is anyone able to break the seal and open the scroll?
The Lion of Judah, who conquered the grave,
He is David’s root and the Lamb who died to ransom the slave.
From every people and tribe, every nation and tongue
He has made us a kingdom and priests to God to reign with the Son!

Is He worthy? Is He worthy of all blessing and honor and glory?
Is He worthy? Is He worthy?
Is He worthy of this?
He is!
Is He worthy? Is He worthy? He is!
He is!

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel
Galatians 4:4-7 (ESV)

Remember the Gospel!

When the fullness of time had come,
God sent forth his Son,
born of woman,
born under the law,
to redeem those who were under the law,
so that we might receive adoption as sons.

And because you are sons,
God has sent the Spirit of his Son
into our hearts, crying, “Abba! Father!”
So you are no longer a slave, but a son,
and if a son, then an heir through God.

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
God Is For Us

We won’t fear the battle, we won’t fear the night.
We will walk the valley with You by our side.
You will go before us, You will lead the way.
We have found a refuge, only You can save.

Chorus
Sing with joy now, our God is for us.
The Father’s love is a strong and mighty fortress.
Raise your voice now, no love is greater.
Who can stand against us if our God is for us.

Even when I stumble, even when I fall.
Even when I turn back, still Your love is sure.
You will not abandon, You will not forsake.
You will cheer me onward with never-ending grace. (Chorus)

Neither height nor depth can separate us,
Hell and death will not defeat us.
He who gave His Son to free us
Holds me in His love. (Repeat)

Sing with joy now, our God is for us.
The Father’s love is a strong and mighty fortress.
Raise your voice now, no love is greater.
Who can stand against us if our God is for us. (Repeat)

Blessed Assurance

Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine!
O what a foretaste of glory divine!
Heir of salvation, purchase of God,
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood.

Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long;
This is my story, this is my song,
Praising my Savior all the day long.

Perfect submission, perfect delight!
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight;
Angels descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love. (Chorus)

Perfect submission-all is at rest,
I in my Savior am happy and blest;
Watching and waiting, looking above,
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love (Chorus)

Scripture Reading
James 3:1-12 (ESV)

1Not many of you should become teachers, my brothers, for you know that we who teach will be judged with greater strictness. 2 For we all stumble in many ways. And if anyone does not stumble in what he says, he is a perfect man, able also to bridle his whole body. 3 If we put bits into the mouths of horses so that they obey us, we guide their whole bodies as well. 4 Look at the ships also: though they are so large and are driven by strong winds, they are guided by a very small rudder wherever the will of the pilot directs. 5 So also the tongue is a small member, yet it boasts of great things. How great a forest is set ablaze by such a small fire! 6 And the tongue is a fire, a world of unrighteousness. The tongue is set among our members, staining the whole body, setting on fire the entire course of life, and set on fire by hell. 7 For every kind of beast and bird, of reptile and sea creature, can be tamed and has been tamed by mankind, 8 but no human being can tame the tongue. It is a restless evil, full of deadly poison. 9 With it we bless our Lord and Father, and with it we curse people who are made in the likeness of God. 10 From the same mouth come blessing and cursing. My brothers, these things ought not to be so. 11 Does a spring pour forth from the same opening both fresh and salt water? 12 Can a fig tree, my brothers, bear olives, or a grapevine produce figs? Neither can a salt pond yield fresh water.

This is the word of the Lord.
The grass withers and the flower falls
but the word of the Lord endures forever.
