Te-bowed Out

I really like Joe Carter’s perspective on what Tebow did be declining to speak at FBC Dallas. I say with him, leave the boy alone. We need to quit looking for celebrity Christians to do the work of the ministry. The Christian community is guilty of elevating Tim Tebow to celebrity status. He is just a man and a young one at that. The Christian community is guilty of creating an aristocratic class of Christian, as if there are classes of followers of Christ. It is not healthy. Tebow is not perfect but there is One who was and is perfect–Jesus Christ. People need to quit looking to people like Tebow for hope and look to the Author and Perfecter of our faith.

Dr. Mohler also has some good comments about this topic on his daily briefing today: http://www.albertmohler.com/2013/02/22/the-briefing-02-22-13/

While I believe Dr. Mohler’s comments to be accurate, he is kind of hard on Tebow. Yet he is correct to say if someone puts himself in the crosshairs, like Tebow has done, he should expect to be shot. This is what is happening to Tebow. It is hard to live in two worlds today. The media is not going to allow Tebow to not take a position. They want him to fall or be ostracized so his influence will be squelched.

We are getting to the point where a person’s opinion on homosexuality is comical. Where will the lunacy end? Will we eventually have to possess cards that show our position on all sorts of cultural and political issues before we can be accepted or define who we are? Very quickly, we had better get to the point where all we care about is what God, the Lord of the Universe, says about us so that when we stand in the court of man we care nothing for his approval or acceptance. We need to know what the word of God says and stand squarely and only on it because everything else will eventually be washed away.
