Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
From Psalm 27:1-6

The Lord is my light and my salvation;
Whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the strength of my life;
Of whom shall I be afraid?

When the wicked came against me to eat up my flesh,
My enemies and foes, they stumbled and fell.
Though an army may encamp against me,
my heart shall not fear;
Though wars may rise against me,
of this I shall be confident.

One thing I have desired of the Lord, that will I seek;
That I may dwell in the house of the Lord
all the days of my life,
To behold the beauty of the Lord
and to inquire in His temple.

Men:
For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His
pavilion;
He shall hide me in the secret place of His tabernacle;
He shall set me high upon a rock.

Women:
And now my head shall be lifted up
above my enemies all around me;
Therefore I will offer sacrifices of joy in His tabernacle;
I will sing, yes, I will sing praises to the Lord!

All:
We will sing! Yes! We will sing praises to the Lord!

Our Sung Call to Worship
Praise to the Lord

Verse 1
Praise to the Lord,
the Almighty, the King of creation!
O my soul, praise Him,
for He is thy health and salvation!
All ye who hear, now to His temple draw near;
praise Him in glad adoration.

Verse 2
Praise to the Lord,
who o’er all things so wondrously reigneth,
Shelters thee under His wings,
yea, so gently sustaineth!
Hast thou not seen how thy desires e’er have been
granted in what He ordaineth?

Verse 3
Praise to the Lord,
who doth prosper thy work and defend thee;
Surely His goodness and mercy
here daily attend thee.
Ponder anew what the Almighty can do,
if with His love He befriend thee.

Verse 4
Praise to the Lord,
O let all that is in me adore Him!
All that hath life and breath,
come now with praises before Him.
Let the Amen sound from His people again,
gladly for aye we adore Him.

Words by Joachim Neader & Catherine Winkworth

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
From Psalm 27:7, The Valley of Vision

Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me and answer me!
For I am vile, wretched, miserable, blind;
My lips are ready to confess,
but my heart is slow to feel;

I am reluctant to change my ways but I bring my
soul to Thee;
Break it, wound it, bend it, mold it.
Grant me to know that the way of transgressors is hard,
That evil paths are wretched paths,
That to depart from Thee is to lose all good.

For my sins I mourn, lament,
and cry to You for pardon.
Grant that through the tears of repentance
I may see more clearly the brightness
and glories of the saving cross.
Hear, O Lord, when I cry with my voice!
Have mercy also upon me and answer me!

Time of silent confession.

Our Sung Confession
Come Quickly, Lord

Verse 1
Creation groans beneath the curse—
Rebellion’s just reward.
We long to see the fall reversed
And Eden’s joys restored. (Chorus)

Chorus:
Come quickly, Lord!
Make all things new!
Redeem the church, Your bride.
With longing eyes we look for You,
For home is at Your side!

Verse 2
So weary of our trait’rous flesh—
Of sin we hate, yet crave—
We yearn to see temptation’s death.,
Indwelling sin’s dark grave. (Chorus)

Verse 3
We want to hear the joyous cries
And join the ransomed throng;
“The Lamb is worthy!” praise will rise
From ev’ry tribe and tongue! (Chorus)

Verse 4
We joy to fix our gaze on Christ,
Though now our view is dim.
We long for heaven’s grandest prize:
To see and be like Him! (Chorus)

Music and words by Chris Anderson and Greg Habegger

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel
Adapted from The Valley of Vision

The Son of God and Son of Man came in the flesh, suffered, rose and ascended for our sake!
His departure wasn’t a permanent separation,
but a pledge of His return.
His Word, promises, and sacraments remind us
of His death until He comes again.

That day holds no terrors for those who have been
Redeemed by His death,
Filled with His Spirit,
Animated by His love,
And who are governed by His Word.

We trust You, Lord, and You do not betray our trust;
We wait for You and we do not wait in vain.

He IS coming to raise our bodies from the dust,
and to reunite it to our souls.
This mighty work of power has been done
because of His infinite love for us, His bride.

Come quickly, Lord Jesus.
Keep us in the faith and ever looking for Your return.

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
Yet Not I But Christ in Me

Verse 1
What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace.

To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his.
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Verse 2
The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior he will stay.
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, his power is displayed.

To this I hold: my Shepherd will defend me;
Through the deepest valley he will lead.
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Verse 3
No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven;
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And he was raised to overthrow the grave.

To this I hold: my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing I am free!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Verse 4
With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For he has said that he will bring me home.
And day by day I know he will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne.

To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus!
All the glory evermore to him!
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Song ending
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Rich Thompson and Michael Farren

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God

We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.
On the first Sunday of each month we have two offerings—one for the general fund and a second one for the benevolence ministry of our church.
You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
2 Peter 2:1-10a (ESV)
1 But false prophets also arose among the people, just as there will be false teachers among you, who will secretly bring in destructive heresies, even denying the Master who bought them, bringing upon themselves swift destruction. 2 And many will follow their sensuality, and because of them the way of truth will be blasphemed. 3 And in their greed they will exploit you with false words. Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
4 For if God did not spare angels when they sinned, but cast them into hell and committed them to chains of gloomy darkness to be kept until the judgment; 5 if he did not spare the ancient world, but preserved Noah, a herald of righteousness, with seven others, when he brought a flood upon the world of the ungodly; 6 if by turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrah to ashes he condemned them to extinction, making them an example of what is going to happen to the ungodly; 7 and if he rescued righteous Lot, greatly distressed by the sensual conduct of the wicked 8 (for as that righteous man lived among them day after day, he was tormenting his righteous soul over their lawless deeds that he saw and heard); 9 then the Lord knows how to rescue the godly from trials, and to keep the unrighteous under punishment until the day of judgment, 10 and especially those who indulge in the lust of defiling passion and despise authority.

This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!

Sermon
2 Peter 2:1-10a – People Who Abandon God and His Word – Pastor Michael Felkins

Sending
Having heard and confessed the Gospel, we are sent into the world on mission in Christ, which we express in both song and spoken word.

Blessing
May the Lord, who knows how to deliver the godly out of temptation, open our eyes to the destructive heresies that whisper constantly in our ears.
May He keep our feet on the narrow path this week,
eyes fixed on Him until the day dawns
and the morning star rises in our hearts.
