Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship

Oh Lord, our Lord
How excellent is Your name in all the earth.
We will praise you, O Lord, with our whole hearts
And tell of your marvelous works.
We will be glad and rejoice in You
And sing praises to Your name, O Most High.

Our Sung Call to Worship
How Firm a Foundation

Verse 1
How firm a foundation, ye saints of the Lord,
Is laid for your faith in His excellent Word!
What more can He say than to you He hath said,
To you who for refuge to Jesus have fled?

Verse 2
“Fear not, I am with Thee; O be not dismayed,
For I am thy God, and will still give thee aid;
I’ll strengthen thee, help thee, and cause thee to stand,
Upheld by My righteous, omnipotent hand.”

Verse 3
“When thro’ fiery trials thy pathway shall lie,
My grace, all sufficient, shall be thy supply;
The flame shall not hurt thee; I only design
Thy dross to consume, and thy gold to refine.”

Verse 4
“The soul that on Jesus hath leaned for repose
I will not, I will not desert to his foes;
That soul, tho’ all hell should endeavor to shake,
I’ll never, no, never, no, never forsake!”

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
Taken from Divine Breathings by Thomas Sherman

O, precious saints! Three questions call for your answer:
What were you?
What are you? and
What shall you be?

Saints, what were you?

We were dead in our transgressions and sins,
rebels to our God,
prodigals to our Father,
slaves to our lust,
the devil’s captives on the highway to Hell!

Time of silent confession.

Our Sung Confession
Dear Refuge of My Weary Soul

Verse 1
Dear refuge of my weary soul,
On Thee, when sorrows rise.
On Thee, when waves of trouble roll,
My fainting hope relies.
To Thee I tell each rising grief,
For Thou alone canst heal.
Thy Word can bring a sweet relief,
For every pain I feel.

Verse 2
But oh! When gloomy doubts prevail,
I fear to call Thee mine.
The springs of comfort seem to fail,
And all my hopes decline.
Yet gracious God, where shall I flee?
Thou art my only trust.
And still my soul would cleave to Thee,
Though prostrate in the dust.

Verse 3
Hast Thou not bid me seek Thy face,
And shall I seek in vain?
And can the ear of sovereign grace,
Be deaf when I complain?
No, still the ear of sovereign grace,
Attends the mourner’s prayer.
Oh may I ever find access,
To breathe my sorrows there.

Verse 4
Thy mercy seat is open still,
Here let my soul retreat.
With humble hope attend Thy will,
And wait beneath Thy feet,
Thy mercy seat is open still,
Here let my soul retreat.
With humble hope attend Thy will,
And wait beneath Thy feet.

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel
Saints, what are you now?

We are redeemed by Christ,
royal children of God,
the bride of Christ,
the temple of the Holy Spirit,
the heirs of a priceless eternal inheritance!

And what will you be?

We will be glorious saints,
companions of angels,
triumphant victors,
crowned kings,
attendants on the Lamb,
participants in those unimaginable excellencies
that are in God!

And there’s more! You are made one with Him:
clothed with His excellencies,
enthroned with His glories,
crowned with His eternity,
and filled with His joy!

“No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, and
no mind has imagined…
what God has prepared for those who love Him!”

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me

Verse 1
What gift of grace is Jesus my Redeemer
There is no more for heaven now to give
He is my joy, my righteousness and freedom
My steadfast love, my deep and boundless peace.

To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus
For my life is wholly bound to his.
Oh, how strange and divine, I can sing: all is mine!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Verse 2
The night is dark but I am not forsaken
For by my side, the Savior he will stay.
I labour on in weakness and rejoicing
For in my need, his power is displayed.

To this I hold: my Shepherd will defend me;
Through the deepest valley he will lead.
Oh the night has been won, and I shall overcome!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Verse 3
No fate I dread, I know I am forgiven;
The future sure, the price it has been paid
For Jesus bled and suffered for my pardon
And he was raised to overthrow the grave.

To this I hold: my sin has been defeated
Jesus now and ever is my plea
Oh the chains are released, I can sing I am free!
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Verse 4
With every breath I long to follow Jesus
For he has said that he will bring me home.
And day by day I know he will renew me
Until I stand with joy before the throne.

To this I hold: my hope is only Jesus!
All the glory evermore to him!
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Song ending
When the race is complete, still my lips shall repeat:
Yet not I, but through Christ in me
Yet not I, but through Christ in me.

Prayer

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God

We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before Him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good Father, who cares about our needs and gives us what He knows is best.

Giving

We Give Thanks by Giving

We give financial offerings to support the work of Christ’s Church because of our gratitude to God. By giving generously and faithfully we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.

On the first Sunday of each month we have two offerings—one for the general fund and a second one for the benevolence ministry of our church.

You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
2 Peter 1:10-15 (ESV)
10 Therefore, brothers, be all the more diligent to confirm your calling and election, for if you practice these qualities you will never fall. 11 For in this way there will be richly provided for you an entrance into the eternal kingdom of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
12 Therefore I intend always to remind you of these qualities, though you know them and are established in the truth that you have. 13 I think it right, as long as I am in this body, to stir you up by way of reminder, 14 since I know that the putting off of my body will be soon, as our Lord Jesus Christ made clear to me. 15 And I will make every effort so that after my departure you may be able at any time to recall these things.

This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!

Having heard and confessed the Gospel, we are sent into the world on mission in Christ, which we express in spoken word.

Blessing

The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.
