Reflection Quote
Faith is more than thinking something is true.
Faith is thinking something is true to the extent that we act on it.

W.T. Purkiser

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
Based on Psalm 119:17-20 (CSB)

Deal generously with your servants
so that we might live.

Speak, O Lord, and we will keep your word.

Open our eyes so that we may contemplate
wondrous things from your instruction.

Speak, O Lord, that we might delight in your ways.

We are resident aliens on earth;
do not hide your commands from us.

Speak, O Lord, and remind us of our homeland.

We are continually overcome
with longing for your judgments.

Speak, O Lord, and satisfy our souls.

Our Sung Call to Worship
Speak O Lord

Verse 1
Speak O Lord, as we come to You,
To receive the food of Your Holy Word.
Take Your truth, plant it deep in us;
Shape and fashion us in Your likeness;
That the Light of Christ might be seen today
In our acts of love and our deeds of faith.
Speak, O Lord, and fulfill in us
All Your purposes for Your glory.

Verse 2
Teach us Lord, full obedience,
Holy reverence, true humility.
Test our thoughts and our attitudes
In the radiance of Your purity.
Cause our faith to rise; cause our eyes to see
Your majestic love and authority.
Words of power that can never fail;
Let their truth prevail over unbelief.

Verse 3
Speak, O Lord and renew our minds;
Help us grasp the heights of Your plans for us.
Truths unchanged from the dawn of time,
That will echo down through eternity.
And by grace we’ll stand on Your promises;
And by faith we’ll walk as You walk with us.
Speak, O Lord, ‘til Your church is built,
And the earth is filled with Your glory.

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession

O Lord, we stand before you ashamed,
confessing our sin of self-righteousness.

You have said that no one is righteous in themselves.
Yet we compare ourselves to others and not to you
so that we may boast of superiority.

You have invited us to confess our sins to you and one another.
Yet we refuse to see and own our sin;
we blame and demonize others
to comfort our conscience.

You have told us to serve, give, pray, and fast in secret.
Yet we finds ways to display our righteousness,
seeking the praise of others as our justification.

You have called us to be a city on a hill, a light in the darkness.
Yet we are content to live as white-washed tombs
as our stench drives people away.

You have given us salvation through the merits of Jesus.
Yet we cast his righteousness on the ground
and trample it under foot, preferring our filthy rags.

We do not deserve to draw near or lift our eyes to heaven.
God be merciful to us, for we are sinners!

Silence for personal confession.

Our Sung Confession
Not in Me

Verse 1
No list of sins I have not done,
No list of virtues I pursue,
No list of those I am not like,
Can earn myself a place with You.
O God! Be merciful to me—
I am a sinner through and through!
My only hope of righteousness
Is not in me, but only You.

Verse 2
No humble dress, no fervent prayer,
No lifted hands, no tearful song,
No recitation of the truth
Can justify a single wrong.
My righteousness is Jesus’ life,
My debt was paid by Jesus’ death,
My weary load was borne by Him
And He alone can give me rest.

Verse 3
No separation from the world,
No work I do, no gift I give,
Can cleanse my conscience, cleanse my hands;
I cannot cause my soul to live.
But Jesus died and rose again—
The pow’r of death is overthrown!
My God is merciful to me
And merciful in Christ alone.

Ending
My righteousness is Jesus’ life,
My debt was paid by Jesus’ death,
My weary load was borne by Him
And He alone can give me rest.
And He alone can give me rest.

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.
Remember the Gospel
From Galatians 3:13-14 (CSB)

Hear the Good News!

Christ redeemed us from the curse of the law
by becoming a curse for us,
because it is written, “Cursed is everyone who is
hung on a tree.”
The purpose was that the blessing of Abraham
would come to the Gentiles by Christ Jesus,
so that we could receive the promised Spirit
through faith.

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
By Faith

Verse 1
By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation’s grand design,
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness,
Who walk by faith and not by sight.

Verse 2
By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the pow’r of His promise in their hearts,
Of a holy city built by God’s own hand,
A place where peace and justice reign. (Chorus)

Chorus
We will stand as children of the promise;
We will fix our eyes on Him, our soul’s reward.
Till the race is finished and the work is done,
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight.

Verse 3
By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed for Messiah would appear
With the pow’r to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave.

Verse 4
By faith the church was called to go
In the pow’r of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In ev’ry corner of the earth. (Chorus)

Verse 5
By faith this mountain shall be moved
And the pow’r of the gospel shall prevail,
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name. (Chorus 2 X’s)

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.
On the first Sunday of each month we have two offerings—one for the general fund and a second one for the benevolence ministry of our church.
You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
Joshua 2:8-11 (ESV)
8 Before the men lay down, she came up to them on the roof 9 and said to the men, “I know that the LORD has given you the land, and that the fear of you has fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land melt away before you. 10 For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red Sea before you when you came out of Egypt, and what you did to the two kings of the Amorites who were beyond the Jordan, to Sihon and Og, whom you devoted to destruction.
11 And as soon as we heard it, our hearts melted, and there was no spirit left in any man because of you, for the LORD your God, he is God in the heavens above and on the earth beneath.

This is the Word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God!
