PreService Song

How Great Thou Art

O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder
Consider all the worlds Thy hands have made,
I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder,
Thy pow’r throughout the universe displayed.

Chorus
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee;
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!
Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art, how great Thou art!

And when I think that God, His Son not sparing,
Sent Him to die, I scarce can take it in;
That on the cross, my burden gladly bearing,
He bled and died to take away my sin.

When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation,
And take me home, what joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow in humble adoration,
And there proclaim, my God, how great Thou art!

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
Psalms 24:1-4 (NRS)

The earth is the LORD’s and all that is in it,
the world, and those who live in it;

For he has founded it on the seas,
and established it on the rivers.

Who shall ascend the hill of the LORD?
And who shall stand in his holy place?

Those who have clean hands and pure hearts,
who do not lift up their souls to what is false,
and do not swear deceitfully.

Let us praise the LORD!

Our Sung Call to Worship
Indescribable

Verse 1
From the highest of heights to the depths of the sea,
Creation’s revealing Your majesty.
From the colors of Fall to the fragrance of Spring,
Every creature unique in the song that it sings.
All exclaiming: (Chorus)

Chorus
Indescribable, uncontainable;
You placed the stars in the sky,
and You know them by name.
You are amazing God;
All powerful, untamable;
Awestruck, we fall to our knees
as we humbly proclaim
You are amazing, God.

Verse 2
Who has told every lightning bolt where it should go,
Or seen heavenly storehouses laden with snow?
Who imagined the sun and gives source to its light,
Yet conceals it to bring us the coolness of night?
None can fathom. (Chorus)

Tag 1
You are amazing God.
(Chorus)

Final Chorus
Indescribable, uncontainable,
You placed the stars in the sky,
and You know them by name.
You are amazing, God;
Incomparable, unchangeable;
You see the depths of my heart
and You love me the same.
You are amazing God.

Tag 2
You are amazing God.

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
From Confessions of Sin and Assurances of Pardon by Bobby G. Griffith Jr.

God forgives and heals us.

We need Your healing, merciful God.
Give us true repentance.
Some sins are plain to us, some escape us,
some we cannot face.

Forgive us. Set us free to hear Your Word to us.
Set us free to serve You.

Have Mercy, O God, and forgive ours sin.
Return us to paths of righteousness through Jesus Christ.

Time of silent confession.

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel
Based on Ephesians 1:7-10

By faith, we have peace with God
through our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ died for our sins.
He made a full atonement for us.

By grace, we are forgiven
and we have the promise of eternal life.

In him we have redemption through his blood,
the forgiveness of our trespasses,
according to the riches of his grace.
For in him is the fountain of life.

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
I Am Ashamed (Distribution Song)

Verse 1
I used to nurture bitterness,
To count up every slight.
The world’s a moral wilderness,
And I have felt its blight.
Self-pity ruled, resentment reigned,
No one understood my pain.
I spiraled down in murky night,
Insisting that I had the right
To hate and hate again.
I am ashamed, ashamed. O, my Lord, forgive.

Verse 2
But then the gospel taught me how
To contemplate the cross.
For there Christ died for me and now
I’ve glimpsed the bitter cost.
He bore abuse and blows and hate.
He did not retaliate.
Triumphant malice sneered and tossed
Blind rage at Him; He never lost
The love that conquers hate.
I am ashamed, ashamed. O, my Lord, forgive.
I am ashamed, ashamed. O, my Lord, forgive.

Verse 3
To make no threat, to smile, forgive,
To love and not because I must;
For Jesus showed me how to live
And trust the One who’s just.
To suffer wrong and feel the pain,
Certain that the loss is gain.
Oh God, I want so much to trust,
To follow Jesus on the cross:
To love and love again, to love and love again.
I am ashamed, ashamed. O, my Lord, forgive.
I am ashamed, ashamed. O, my Lord, forgive.

Celebration of the Lord’s Supper

Glorious Day

Verse 1
One day when Heaven was filled with His praises,
One day when sin was as black as could be,
Jesus came forth to be born of a virgin,
Dwelt among men, my example is He.
The Word became flesh and the light shined among us,
His glory revealed. (Chorus)

Chorus
Living, He loved me, dying, He saved me
Buried, He carried my sins far away.
Rising, He justified freely forever.
One day He’s coming,
Oh glorious day, oh glorious day.

Verse 2
One day they led Him up Calvary’s mountain.
One day they nailed Him to die on a tree.
Suffering anguish, despised and rejected,
Bearing our sins my Redeemer is He.
The hands that healed nations stretched out on a tree
And took the nails for me. (Chorus)

Verse 3
One day the grave could conceal Him no longer,
One day the stone rolled away from the door.
Then He arose over death He had conquered.
Now is ascended, my Lord evermore
Death could not hold Him,
The grave could not keep Him From rising again. (Chorus)

Bridge
One day the trumpet will sound for His coming,
One day the skies with His glories will shine.
Wonderful day my Beloved One bringing.
My Savior Jesus is mine. (Chorus)

Ending after Chorus
O glorious day, glorious day.
O glorious day!

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.

On the first Sunday of each month we have a Mission Moment to highlight the different missions giving
opportunities we have at Grand. Members are encouraged to give to GABC Missions to support these missions.

You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
Isaiah 41:21-29

21 “Submit your case,” says the LORD. “Present your arguments,” says Jacob’s King.
22 “Let them come and tell us what will happen.
Tell us the past events, so that we may reflect on them
and know the outcome, or tell us the future.
23 Tell us the coming events, then we will know that you are gods. Indeed, do something good or bad, then we will be in awe when we see it.
24 Look, you are nothing and your work is worthless.
Anyone who chooses you is detestable.
25 “I have stirred up one from the north, and he has come,
one from the east who invokes my name. He will march over rulers as if they were mud, like a potter who treads the clay.
26 Who told about this from the beginning, so that we might know, and from times past, so that we might say, ‘He is right’? No one announced it, no one told it, no one heard your words.
27 I was the first to say to Zion, ‘Look! Here they are!’
And I gave Jerusalem a herald with good news.
28 When I look, there is no one; there is no counselor among them; when I ask them, they have nothing to say.
29 Look, all of them are a delusion; their works are nonexistent; their images are wind and emptiness.

This is the word of the Lord.
The grass withers, and the flower falls,
but the word of the Lord endures forever.

Sending
Having heard and confessed the Gospel, we are sent into the world on mission in Christ, which we express in both song and spoken word.

Sending Song
By Faith

Verse 1
By faith we see the hand of God
In the light of creation’s grand design,
In the lives of those who prove His faithfulness,
Who walk by faith and not by sight.

Verse 2
By faith our fathers roamed the earth
With the pow’r of His promise in their hearts,
Of a holy city built by God’s own hand,
A place where peace and justice reign. (Chorus)

Chorus
We will stand as children of the promise;
We will fix our eyes on Him, our soul’s reward.
Till the race is finished and the work is done,
We’ll walk by faith and not by sight.

Verse 3
By faith the prophets saw a day
When the longed for Messiah would appear
With the pow’r to break the chains of sin and death
And rise triumphant from the grave. (Chorus)

Verse 4
By faith the church was called to go
In the pow’r of the Spirit to the lost
To deliver captives and to preach good news
In ev’ry corner of the earth. (Chorus)

Verse 5
By faith this mountain shall be moved
And the pow’r of the gospel shall prevail,
For we know in Christ all things are possible
For all who call upon His name. (Chorus 2 X’s)

Blessing
Isaiah 42:6

The Lord says, “I am the LORD;
I have called you in righteousness;
I will take you by the hand and keep you
and make you a light to the nations.”

By grace through faith, we go in God’s strength
to be a light to the nations for the glory of his name!
