Pre-service Song
O Church Arise

Verse 1
O Church, arise, and put your armour on:
Hear the call of Christ our Captain.
For now the weak can say that they are strong,
in the strength that God has given.
With shield of faith and belt of truth,
we’ll stand against the devil’s lies;
And army bold, whose battle cry is Love,
reaching out to those in darkness.

Verse 2
Our call to war, to love the captive soul,
but to rage against the captor;
And with the sword that makes the wounded whole,
we will fight with faith and valour.
When faced with trials on ev’ry side,
we know the outcome is secure.
And Christ will have the prize for which He died,
an inheritance of nations.

Verse 3
Come see the cross, where love and mercy meet,
as the Son of God is stricken;
Then see His foes lie crushed beneath His feet,
for the Conqueror has risen.
And as the stone is rolled away
and Christ emerges from the grave,
this victory march continues till the day
ev’ry eye and heart shall see Him.

Verse 4
So Spirit, come, put strength in ev’ry stride,
give grace for every hurdle;
That we may run with faith, to win the prize
of a servant, good and faithful.
As saints of old still line the way,
retelling triumphs His grace,
we hear their calls, and hunger for the day
when, with Christ, we stand in glory.

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
Psalm 8:1 & 9:1,2

Oh Lord, our Lord!
How excellent is Your name in all the earth!

In this new year, we will praise you, O Lord,
with our whole hearts
and tell of all your marvelous works.
We will be glad and rejoice in You
and sing praises to Your name, O Most High.

Our Sung Call to Worship
His Mercy is More

Verse 1
What love could remember no wrongs we have done?
Omniscient, all-knowing, He counts not their sum.
Thrown into a sea without bottom or shore—
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more. (Chorus)

Chorus
Praise the Lord, His mercy is more
Stronger than darkness, new every morn
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more.

Verse 2
What patience would wait as we constantly roam?
What Father so tender is calling us home?
He welcomes the weakest, the vilest, the poor,
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more. (Chorus)

Verse 3
What riches of kindness He lavished on us—
His blood was the payment, His life was the cost!
We stood ‘neath a debt we could never afford.
Our sins they are many, His mercy is more. (Chorus 2X’s)

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession

O precious saints! Three questions call for your answer:
What were you?
What are you? and
What shall you be?

Saints, what were you?

We were dead in our transgressions and sins,
rebels to our God,
prodigals to our Father,
slaves to our lust,
the devil’s captives on the highway to Hell!

Time of silent confession.

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Remember the Gospel
1 Corinthians 2:9

Saints, what are you now?

We are redeemed by Christ,
royal children of God,
the bride of Christ,
the temple of the Holy Spirit,
the heirs of a priceless eternal inheritance!

And what will you be?

We will be glorious saints and companions of angels,
triumphant victors and crowned kings,
attendants of the Lamb, participants in
the unimaginable excellencies that are in God!

And there’s more! You are made one with Him:
clothed with His excellencies, enthroned with His glories,
crowned with His eternity, and filled with His joy!

No eye has seen,
no ear has heard, and
no mind has imagined . . .
what God has prepared for those who love Him!

Our Sung Profession of Assurance
All I Have is Christ

Verse 1
I once was lost in darkest night,
Yet thought I knew the way.
The sin that promised joy and life
Had led me to the grave.
I had no hope that You would own
A rebel to Your will.
And if You had not loved me first
I would refuse You still.

Verse 2
But as I ran my hell-bound race,
Indifferent to the cost.
You looked upon my helpless state
And led me to the cross.
And I beheld God’s love displayed,
You suffered in my place.
You bore the wrath reserved for me,
Now all I know is grace. (Chorus)

Chorus
Hallelujah! All I have is Christ.
Hallelujah! Jesus is my life.

Verse 3
Now Lord I would be Yours alone,
And live so all might see.
The strength to follow Your commands
Could never come from me.
O Father, use my ransomed life
In any way You choose,
And let my song forever be
My only boast is You. (Chorus 2 X’s)

All Glory Be To Christ

Verse 1
Should nothing of our efforts stand,
No legacy survive
Unless the Lord does raise the house,
In vain its builders strive.
To you who boast tomorrow’s gain,
Tell me what is your life
A mist that vanishes at dawn,
All glory be to Christ! (Chorus)

Chorus
All glory be to Christ our king!
All glory be to Christ!
His rule and reign we’ll ever sing,
All glory be to Christ!

Verse 2
His will be done, His kingdom come,
On earth as is above
Who is Himself our daily bread,
Praise Him the Lord of love.
Let living water satisfy
The thirsty without price
We’ll take a cup of kindness yet
All glory be to Christ! (Chorus)

Verse 3
When on the day the great I Am,
The faithful and the true
The Lamb who was for sinners slain,
Is making all things new,
Behold our God shall live with us
And be our steadfast light
And we shall e’re his people be,
All glory be to Christ! (Chorus 2 X’s)

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.

On the first Sunday of each month we have a Mission Moment to highlight the different missions giving
opportunities we have at Grand. Members are encouraged to give to GABC Missions to support these missions.

You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/ or place your offering in the boxes at the back of the sanctuary or send a check in the mail.

Scripture Reading
Isaiah 54:1-55:13 (Only 54:4-10 will be read)

54:1 “Rejoice, childless one, who did not give birth; burst into song and shout, you who have not been in labor! For the children of the desolate one will be more than the children of the married woman,” says the LORD.
2 “Enlarge the site of your tent, and let your tent curtains be stretched out; do not hold back;
lengthen your ropes, and drive your pegs deep.
3 For you will spread out to the right and to the left, and your descendants will dispossess nations and inhabit the desolate cities.
4 “Do not be afraid, for you will not be put to shame; don’t be humiliated, for you will not be disgraced. For you will forget the shame of your youth, and you will no longer remember the
disgrace of your widowhood.
5 Indeed, your husband is your Maker— his name is the LORD of Armies— and the Holy One of Israel is your Redeemer; he is called the God of the whole earth.
6 For the LORD has called you, like a wife deserted and wounded in spirit, a wife of one’s youth when she is rejected,” says your God.
7 “I deserted you for a brief moment, but I will take you back with abundant compassion.
8 In a surge of anger I hid my face from you for a moment, but I will have compassion on you
with everlasting love,” says the LORD your Redeemer.
9 “For this is like the days of Noah to me: when I swore that the water of Noah would never flood the earth again, so I have sworn that I will not be angry with you or rebuke you.
10 Though the mountains move and the hills shake, my love will not be removed from you and my covenant of peace will not be shaken,” says your compassionate LORD.
11 “Poor Jerusalem, storm-tossed, and not comforted, I will set your stones in black mortar,
and lay your foundations in lapis lazuli.
12 I will make your fortifications out of rubies,
your gates out of sparkling stones, and all your walls out of precious stones.
13 Then all your children will be taught by the LORD, their prosperity will be great,
14 and you will be established on a foundation of righteousness. You will be far from oppression, you will certainly not be afraid; you will be far from terror, it will certainly not come near you. 15 If anyone attacks you, it is not from me; whoever attacks you will fall before you.
16 Look, I have created the craftsman who blows on the charcoal fire and produces a weapon suitable for its task; and I have created the destroyer to cause havoc.
17 No weapon formed against you will succeed,
and you will refute any accusation raised against you in court. This is the heritage of the LORD’s servants, and their vindication is from me.” This is the LORD’s declaration.
55:1 “Come, everyone who is thirsty, come to the water; and you without silver, come, buy, and eat!
Come, buy wine and milk without silver and without cost!
2 Why do you spend silver on what is not food,
and your wages on what does not satisfy? Listen carefully to me, and eat what is good, and you will enjoy the choicest of foods.
3 Pay attention and come to me; listen, so that you will live. I will make a permanent covenant with you on the basis of the faithful kindnesses of David.
4 Since I have made him a witness to the peoples, a leader and commander for the peoples, 5 so you will summon a nation you do not know, and nations who do not know you will run to you. For the LORD your God, even the Holy One of Israel, has glorified you.”
6 Seek the LORD while he may be found; call to him while he is near.
7 Let the wicked one abandon his way and the sinful one his thoughts; let him return to the LORD, so he may have compassion on him, and to our God, for he will freely forgive.
8 “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, and your ways are not my ways.” This is the LORD’s declaration.
9 “For as heaven is higher than earth, so my ways are higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
10 For just as rain and snow fall from heaven
and do not return there without saturating the earth and making it germinate and sprout, and providing seed to sow and food to eat, 11 so my word that comes from my mouth will not return to me empty, but it will accomplish what I please and will prosper in what I send it to do.”
12 You will indeed go out with joy and be peacefully guided; the mountains and the hills will break into singing before you, and all the trees of the field will clap their hands.
13 Instead of the thorn bush, a cypress will come up, and instead of the brier, a myrtle will come up; this will stand as a monument for the LORD, an everlasting sign that will not be destroyed.

This is the word of the Lord.
The grass withers, and the flower falls, but the word of the Lord endures forever.
