The Easter Song

Call To Worship
We confess the supremacy of God in Christ through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Call to Worship
(Ephesians 2, Hebrews 12)

MEN: He is risen!
ALL: He is risen indeed!

WOMEN: He is risen!
ALL: He is risen indeed!

(optional)
CHILDREN: He is risen!
ALL: He is risen indeed!

ALL: Christ the Lord is risen today! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

God the Father, Creator of All, has worked His mighty power in Christ,
raising Him from the dead and
seating Him at the right hand of His Throne in the heavenly places;
far above all principalities and powers and might
and dominion and every name that is named,
not only in this age, but also in that which is to come.

And He has put all things under His feet
and has given Him to be head over all things to the church,
which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all.

We, Your church, Your body, Your bride,
celebrate Christ’s resurrection today; separately in our homes,
but collectively with all Your called out ones throughout the whole earth!
Together, surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses,
let our praises be a sweet-smelling aroma to You, our Redeemer and King.

Christ the Lord is risen today! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!

Christ the Lord is Risen Today

Confession
We confess our need for mercy through both responsive reading and song.

Our Spoken Confession
(adapted from William Sprague, “Lectures on Revivals of Religion”)

We confess that we do not live in light of Your resurrection.
We choose to be friends with the world and become Your enemies.

The worries and cares of this world fill us with fear and dread.
We forget that You have promised to bear them for us.

The pleasures of this world delight, seduce, and ensnare us.
We forget that You are sweeter than anything the world offers.

The honors of this world fill us with longing and pride.
We forget that our best efforts are filthy rags.

The riches of this world seize hold of our hearts and we lust for more.
We forget they are a gift to be thankful for and used for Your kingdom.

We forget that the same power that raised Christ from the dead is available to us today, setting us free from the tyranny of the devil and our rebel hearts.

Forgive us, Oh Lord, we pray.

Our Sung Confession
Is He Worthy?

Assurance and Peace
We profess our assurance of salvation and peace in Christ through both responsive reading and song.
Remember the Gospel
(adapted from William Sprague, “Lectures on Revivals of Religion”)

Glorious Redeemer, You truly are worthy of all blessings and honor and glory!

Cause us to remember that Jesus rose from the dead,
setting us free from the cravings of sinful man, the lust of our eyes,
and the boasting in what we have.

Thank you, that He lived in this world understanding our condition
and rose from the dead to set us free from it!

Thank you that we will share in the glory of Christ;
in His resurrected body bearing His image.
This in turn glorifies You, Father,
for we are saved and glorified only
because You have chosen us and atoned for our sin in Christ.

Hallelujah! What a Savior!

Thanksgiving and Petition

We Give Thanks in Prayer and Offer Petitions to God
We express our gratitude to God our Father for Christ’s work on the cross for us and bring our requests before him. In bringing our requests, we confess that we believe God truly is a good father, who cares about our needs and gives us what he knows is best.

Prayer

Our Father in Heaven, if there is any who are mourning, and downcast, please lift up their hearts. Father, lift up the light of Your countenance and make their hearts glad in Jesus. On this Day of our Lord’s Resurrection may no soul be in gloom but be filled with the joy of the empty tomb.

Today may all the saints in Christ rejoice in their risen Lord. May their hearts rise with Him and sit with Him in the heavenlies, and may they reign with Him in the fullness of His joy.

Heavenly Father bless our dear brothers and sisters in Christ as we cannot gather together to celebrate the resurrection of our Savior. Truly the absence of our weekly gatherings had made our hearts grow fonder of worshipping Jesus together.

Heavenly Father, we will rejoice when we can say, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” Yet, until that day comes, we will lift up our eyes to the hills and know that our help comes from the LORD who made heaven and earth. May we continue to trust in You and not be moved. May we abide with You and may You surround us with your grace as the mountains surround Jerusalem.

We look forward to the time when we can sing together:

1 This is the day the Lord hath made,
He calls the hours his own;
Let heaven rejoice, let earth be glad,
And praise surround the throne.

2 Today he rose and left the dead,
And Satan’s empire fell;
Today the saints his triumphs spread,
And all his wonders tell.

3 Hosanna to th’ anointed King,
To David’s holy Son:
Help us, O Lord; descend and bring
Salvation from the throne.

4 Blest be the Lord, who comes to men
With messages of grace;
Who comes in God his Father’s Name
To save our sinful race.

5 Hosanna in the highest strains
The church on earth can raise;
The highest heavens, in which he reigns,
Shall give him nobler praise.[1]

In the glorious name of Jesus, we pray—Amen!

We Give Thanks by Giving
We give financial offerings to support the work of the church because of our gratitude to God. By giving we confess we are trusting in God’s provision for us as well.
On the first Sunday of each month, we have two offerings—one for the general fund and a second one for the benevolence ministry of our church.

You may give electronically at gabcames.org/giving/.
You may also send a check by mail.

Scripture Reading
1 Corinthians 15:20–26 (CSB)

20 But as it is, Christ has been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. 21 For since death came through a man, the resurrection of the dead also comes through a man. 22 For just as in Adam all die, so also in Christ all will be made alive.

23 But each in his own order: Christ, the firstfruits; afterward, at his coming, those who belong to Christ. 24 Then comes the end, when he hands over the kingdom to God the Father, when he abolishes all rule and all authority and power. 25 For he must reign until he puts all his enemies under his feet. 26 The last enemy to be abolished is death.

Benediction
(based on Hebrews 13)

God of peace,
who brought Jesus back from the dead,
Equip us with all we need for doing Your will.
Produce in us,
through the power of Jesus Christ,
all that is pleasing to You
To whom belongs the glory forever and ever.
Amen
